Tuesday, May 15 – Pony Bar Upper East Side Grand Opening @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:
The Upper East Side just got way cooler – the genius minds behind The Pony Bar decided that the city needed more craft beer and delicious food and lucky UES-craft-beer-heads are getting the second installation. It’s been described as the second mecca of craft beer in NYC (after the first Pony of course). The new spot will be a bit bigger in size and is keeping with the same 20 taps/2 casks system. Of course everything will be $5 – an exceptionally reasonable price for some of the craft staples and specialty pours of which they always seem to have several on hand. On top of all that good stuff they will be keeping with the great food, music and rustic Americana atmosphere, all to provide you with arguably the best craft beer drinking experience in the city.
The UES Pony Bar is located at 1444 1st Ave on the corner of 75th St. in the Upper East Side, Manhattan (more…)

Hey now! It’s Tuesday. Let’s drink some craft beer!
Tuesday, March 6 – Founders Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:
Some would call Founders arriving on the East Coast one of the best things to happen to New York City ever. Perhaps we should have a public holiday to celebrate? Until then (more…)

This year is special – you’re getting some extra time. To do what with you ask? Drink more craft beer of course! What kind of craft beer should you drink and where should you drink it? Let’s see…
Tuesday, February 28 – Dogfish Head Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:
The over-the-top odd-duck of the beer world is bringing their best brews to one of NYC’s best brew bars. Enter Dogfish Head at the Pony Bar. We’re talking 20 draft lines and 2 casks. Possibly even some fancy rare stuff. Although, almost anything Dogfish Head makes tastes fancy and rare. Chris Valente, of Dogfish, will be on hand to get you through the night, but you should probably set something up beforehand to help get you home. This is going to be a big one.
The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avenue on the Northwest corner of 45th street, Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan.

What a kick-off weekend! The Beer Friends enjoyed quite a bit of craft beer this weekend in honor of the 2011 New York City Craft Beer Week. Rattle n’ Hum threw a great Barrier and Greenport bash Friday night, the Smuttynose pouring at Mudville on Saturday was fantastic (especially that Homunculus) and we’re still not sure which is better – the Concoction or the Penicillin that we tasted on Sunday.
Because there is so much to do this week and weekend, we’re going to be breaking up the Beer Friends event listings for the week. Today we’re throwing at you the events happening from Monday to Thursday. You can then check back on Thursday for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday events – a.k.a. The Grand Finale of NYC Craft Beer Week. We’re hitting the streets, bars and breweries this week with a feverish devotion and we sure hope to see all you NYC Beer Friends out there with us!
Monday, September 19
Got a case of the Monday’s after such a fantastic craft beer fueled weekend? We understand. We also know how to help.

It’s here! It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here! I feel like a child on Christmas (Hanukkah, Quanza or Atheist Hate-On-Everyone Day – we’re equal opportunity here) – if Christmas was 10,000 times more magical and filled with beer than it already is. The 2011 New York City Craft Beer Week has arrived! From Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 25 (Yes! I know it’s more than a week! Two extra days!) we here in NYC will be inundated, not by deluges of hurricanes or the shaky grounds of earthquakes, but floods of delicious craft beer at an incredible number of establishments – so many that you literally couldn’t commute to work each day without bumping into at least one event venue.
The NYC Craft Beer Week website has the full list of events (along with opportunities to obtain a passport with boatloads of craft beer deals) and it is immense and impressive. To help you sift through the dozens of craft beering happening each day we picked out the events that were the most intriguing, from our favorite breweries, pouring the rarest of brews and in general, a guaranteed damn good time. This edition covers the weekend on Monday. Check back in Monday morning for our take on next week’s events.
We hope you agree with our list and, as always, can’t wait to see you out there in the jungle…the 2011 New York City Craft Beer Week jungle that is!
Friday, September 16
Friday night starts the whole shebang off with a lip smackin’ range of events. You can choose to hit up the Official NYC Craft Beer Week opening festivity at Southpaw in Park Slope (the tickets are $50 and include a tasting glass for free tastings and some pretty kick-ass music). Check out their website and see if it’s in your sights. If tickets aren’t your flavor then check out these pay-as-you-go events:

Good morning all you Beer Friends out there! This week’s NYC craft beer events list will be slightly abridged, and for a good reason. We’ll only be showcasing events from today until Thursday, after that there’s a bit of a surprise in store for you. New York City Craft Beer Week. Beginning Friday, September 16. We here at the Beer Friends think that a week dedicated solely to craft beer happening in the greatest city on the planet (and sponsored by the mayor) is important enough to deserve its own post. So, when Thursday comes around and you realize that you’ve come to the end of this week’s Beer Friends sponsored events, don’t fret. That morning we’ll throw our list of the Beer Friends most anticipated events for NYC Craft Beer Week 2011. Yes, two Beer Friends events listings a week makes should make you feel warm inside, it’s natural.

I woke up this morning with great expectations. The sun was shining, a warm summer breeze blowing through the air, the smell of blossoming plants and then I opened my eyes. Rain. Thunder. Fog. And it was cold. And it will be happening all week long. Then I looked at the list of craft beer events happening this week. The clouds parted, the sun came back out and the annoying spitting from the dense fog that engulfed the city transformed into a soft mist reminiscent of the Irish countryside. Yea, craft beer has that affect on me.
Tuesday, May 17 – Empire Brewing Company Night @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:
Imagine you were taking a boat trip down the Erie Canal (10 points if you know where the Erie Canal is) rafting through the port towns of Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo and you wanted a beer. The obvious choice is Empire Brewing Company. Started in Syracuse and at

Hello beer Friends Nation!
Rub those eyes one more time… Two, yes two live blogs tonight! Personally I’m clocking overtime for this. Two Beer friends awaken to Pony Bar’s Smuttynose Brewery event featuring 14 drafts and 2 casks… round 2… Ding ding ding!
Phil’s 2nd 1st(I guess) – Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA: a good a around opener IPA. Good, bit not overpowering, hops at the start with a nice sweeter ending that doesn’t take away from the overall flavor.
Brad’s 1st 2nds(?) – Vunderbar is another German pilsner that’s heavier on taste and malts. Not as hoppy as the Rogue pilsner ( t-minus two hours ago) this pilsner is more like a traditional German style which my best reference is Brooklyn Pilsner… Either way it’s flavorful and easy to drink!
