February 19, 2013

We are all looking ahead to this Friday, when NYC Craft Beer Week officially kicks off at craft beer bars and restaurants across the 5 boroughs.  Check back here later this week for The Beer Friends top choices for NYCBW.  Here are a few events for the week to keep you occupied as you wait.

Tuesday, February 19 – Tuesday Night Tastings: Cellar Raid @ Jimmy’s No. 43, Manhattan:

When it comes to Jimmy’s No. 43, one of the oldest craft beer bars in NYC, the most coveted part of the bar is not what’s coming out of the taps but what’s beneath them:  the cellar beer.  They’ll be breaking out some of their cellar favorites for (more…)

Hashtag Battles Season 2 – Week 2!

September 16, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

In the spirit of competition, Beer Friends would like to invite everyone to our second season of NFL hashtag battles! Using hashtagbattle.com we will pit two breweries against each other when their NFL counterparts are facing off on the gridiron. Are you ready for some football? And drinking? And #hashtag battle?!?!?!

What’s a hashtag battle? When you’re drinking a beer of a brewery competing in the battle, throw a #hashtag of the brewery and tweet it (or setup your foursquare or untappd to push to tweet and include the #hashtag) and we’ll use hashtagbattle.com to declare a winner after the Monday Night football game on ESPN. Support your team, support your beer, drink local and hashtag battle!

Week Two – Tampa Bay Bucs at New York Giants (#cigarcitybeer vs #sixpoint)

New York Beer Events for the Week of August 20th – 25th

August 20, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

We know why you’ve come here today, just sit back and let us plan your week of beer swigging events…

Monday August 20th -

Murray’s Cheese is a locals favorite of most New Yorkers – legendary on Bleecker, I recently had a true New Yorker get so excited that “Murray’s now sells beer!” As if the craft beer revolution was now official in his mind.  Well, those of us who’ve been following for quite some time welcome Murray’s Cheese to the table and let’s see what they got!  On Monday, August 20th, Murray’s Cheese pairs with the Shelton Brothers to present “Belgian Beers and Cheese” – the problem is (with Murray’s being new to the craft beer scene – we’re very cheap) it’s $75 to get in and availability is limited (10 seats for this class).

Murray’s Cheese is located at 254 Bleecker St., New York, NY

Tuesday August 21st -

Beer Review 123: Sixpoint Apollo

August 17, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

This weeks SPotW is part of the seasonal series from Sixpoint Craft Ales in Redhook, Brooklyn.  It’s no secret that the Beer Friends love Sixpoint and love what they are doing with their cans.  The art, the size (tallboys) and the quality is a great look in to a craft brewery growing and improving their brand daily.  In honor of the recent Olympics – SPOILER ALERT:  This is a Bavarian style wheat beer with Belgian roots – guess who’s gonna hate it? Sixpoint! Nanokegs! Sun God!

Beer Review 106: Sixpoint Resin

March 16, 2012

Hello Beer Friend Nation!

In the Beer Friends constant effort to drink everything Sixpoint produces – we occasionally video tape ourselves doing it.  This week we tried the very sought after Resin, a Double IPA that was just announced as a year round brew from Sixpoint.  Sixpoint has always been known for doing killer stuff on draft and last year they started selling their stuff in Nanokegs.  This turned back the clock for the Beer Friends  and every new can or design was like diving into a new pack of baseball cards.  Be sure to check out our other Sixpoint reviews below the video.  Sixpoint! Double/Imperial! #Nanokegs!

Beer Review 100: Sixpoint Diesel

January 31, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

“I’d like to thank my friends and family, those that supported me in low times, thank you Gigi, my little girls watching at home and most of all the academy, thank you!”  It needs a little work, but we had barely any time to work on it (or about 100 weeks…)  We made it.  100 reviews.  100 videos of a “bunch of boring dudes drinking beer on camera.”  This week we return to one of our favorite breweries – Sixpoint from Redhook, Brooklyn.  The Beer Friends have always been huge fans of Sixpoint and it was like Christmas when we could get their stuff in cans.  We quickly ran out and reviewed our favorites, our new favorites, newer beers to Sixpoint, old standby’s, and their first seasonal.  Now this Black IPA/Stout mix - Diesel comes along and confuses some people on it’s exact style and admittingly the Beer Friends were confused as well – until we went to the source and sought out the truth.  Thanks to all the viewers out there who caught us for the first 100, and keep watching for the second 100!

Beer Review 86: Sixpoint Autumnation

October 18, 2011

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Well we reviewed the original Sixpoint four (Bengali Tiger, Righteous Rye, Crisp, Sweet Action) and now we move to the seasonals.  First up is Autumnation, a wet-hopped pumpkin spiced ale.  We cannot confirm if this uses a similar recipe as last years pumpkin ale from Sixpoint Pumpkin Brewster (best name ever) but we can confirm that they brew with hops, a lot of them.  Grab a can and check it out for yourself!  Sixpoint!  Five Cans!  Pumpkin!
