New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of September 25, 2011

September 26, 2011

Every year, like clockwork, right around this time a question comes up:  What does one do the week after NYC Craft Beer Week?  It’s a tough question.  Craft Beer Week was incredible, as always, with the Beer Friends hitting up at least one event every day.  What do we do now that there isn’t quite the dozen or so beer events to choose from every day?  Well, we’re going to help you answer that question.  There is life after NYC Craft Beer Week.  Here it is:

Tuesday, September 27 – Fermented Craft Beer Crawl @ The East Village, Manhattan:

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of June 12, 2011

June 13, 2011

I had a feeling.  And not just the usual feelings, but the awesome feelings.  The sort of feelings that let you know this is going to be a big week.  A HUGE week.  Seriously though, the closest example I would give for the events happening this week would be a planetary alignment with the center of the galaxy.  It wasn’t organized by anything beyond cosmic happenstance but despite it’s coincidental nature, it’s pretty damn awesome.  Well, this week you can thank The Beer Friends for taking the random alignment of super-awesome craft beer events and organizing them into a coherent list of what you should drink and where you should drink it.  Let’s see what we’ve got…

Tuesday, June 14 – The Good Beer Seal 2011 Awards Party @ Barcade, Brooklyn:

Ever had the urge to share your opinion regarding all things craft beer in the New York City metro area?  But didn’t feel like being as verbose as creating a blog on the internet?  Now here at The Beer Friends we don’t really know about such things.  However, we do know about a more concise method of expressing your expert craft beer opinions.  And it’s happening this week.

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 1/9/11

January 10, 2011

The New Years Eve hangover is finished and Craft Beer is back in full force this week in New York City.  Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into and where we can go to get into it…

Monday, January 10 – Shmaltz Brewery Event @ The Good Beer Store, Manhattan: Shmaltz Brewery is the mastermind behind the brews from Coney Island and Hebrew.  Jeremy Cowan will be heading to the Good Beer Store in the East Village to sign copies of his book and feed you select offerings of his delicious brews.  The Good Beer Store is new to the New York City craft beer scene and it is a great place to grab a pint/flight, fill your growler or find your favorite craft bottles.  They also serve craft beer type foods – sausages, cheeses and other deliciousness.  It gets a Beer Friends stamp of approval.

The Good Beer Store is located at 422 E 9th Street between Avenue A and 1st Avenue.

Wednesday, January 12 – Troeg’s Brewery Event @ The Stag’s Head, Manhattan: Troegs is a fantastic brewery straight out of PA and they are heading straight to the Stag’s Head Wednesday evening to provide you with sustenance.  Expect the best they have to offer- think Troegenator, Hopback Amber, Nugget Nectar and Flying Mouflan.  And think about going there.  Actually, don’t just think about it – Do it.

The Stag’s Head is located at 252 E 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

Thursday, January 13 – Sierra Nevada Draft Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: I believe at least one (or more) Beer Friend has been quoted as saying that Bierkraft is the best place in NYC to get your growler filled.  Now we won’t give it that official title (although it is pretty damn awesome) but it’s gotta be close.  Sierra Nevada will be taking over the taps with some regular and rare brews, including Hoptimum.  Declicious.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets, Brooklyn.

Saturday, January 15 – Ballast Point and Two Brothers Tasting Event @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn: Head on over to GRAB Specialty Foods in Park Slope for the newest installment of their Saturday tasting events.  Two Brothers will be bringing Cane & Ebel, Northwind Imperial Stout, and Domaine Dupage while Ballast Point will be pouring their Sculpin IPA and Calico Amber Ale.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, Brooklyn.

NYC Craft Beer Events – Week of 10/10 – 10/16

October 11, 2010

Hey all you Beer Friends out there!  Let’s see what’s happening beer wise in this great metropolis of ours throughout this upcoming week.

Monday, October 11 – Troeg’s Tasting Event @ Amity Hall, Manhattan: Amity Hall is the place you go to when your nosing around Washington Square Park with your friends that are visiting the city and wanted to see Washington Square Park and then want beer.  You know it’s there, you might not head to an NYU neighborhood regularly, but today you know that you will not take your friends to a light beer bar on Bleecker, but you will take them to a good craft beer bar on West 3rd.  If all this happens to be happening tonight, Monday, October 11, then you will be in for a treat:  Troeg’s Tasting Event.  Troeg’s is a fantastic brewery from outside of Philadelphia.  So after your friends have taken their respective pictures in front of the newly aligned fountain in Washington Square, bring them to Amity Hall, head upstairs and drink Troeg’s. They’ll thank you for saving them from tourist dogma.

Tuesday, October 12 – I Love NY Beer Week: Captain Lawrence Night @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan: The Spring Lounge is a great beer bar that borders the entrance to Little Italy, a.k.a. many New Yorkers Tourist Nightmare (seems to be a theme today actually).  However, you are not in Little Italy, nobody is throwing pasta at you and I promise you only have to choose 3 different flavors of gelato if you want to.  The Spring Lounge is spending the week appreciating New York Breweries, from all over the state, starting with Captain Lawrence out of Kingston, NY.  Come on by and grab some Westchester Pale Ale, Brown Bird Brown and Liquid Gold.  And if you want, you can head over to Little Italy and get some gelato on your way out.  You can even choose 3 flavors for the same price.  If you want to.

NYC Craft Beer Events – Week of 10/3 – 10/9

October 5, 2010

Craft Beer Week is over.  And it was fantastic.  Anything that brings that much craft beer into this great city of ours is a good thing.  The Beer Friends were in full support throughout the week and were thrilled with all the great beer events.  Thank you to the organizers, the bars and the brewers for fantastic times!   Although NYC Craft Beer  Week is over, the craft beer events have not stopped flowing.  This week’s listing is non-surprisingly thinner than last week’s, however I think you’ll still be able to find some great gems to head out to.

Tuesday, October 5 – Sierra Nevada Night @ The Pony Bar: The Beer Friends favorite NYC Craft Beer Bar is throwing another epic brewery event in a chain of equally epic brewery events.  If you remember last years Sierra Nevada night then you will want to head on over to this one.  Sierra will be taking over the taps and throwing on a couple cask lines hopefully filling our beer desires with Tumbler, Torpedo, Rebellion, Chico IPA and many more favorites.  If you know Sierra, and how many beers they brew, then you know you’ll be able to find one, or two (or three, or four) brews of theirs that will ignite your curiosity.  Oh, and we always forget to mention that the craft beers at The Pony Bar are only $5.  ALL THE TIME.  Except for 4:20 – 5:20 everyday.  WHEN THEY’RE ONLY $4.  Get there early, get a table, order the Roast Beast ( or the Friend Oysters and Bacon, or the Avocado-Lettuce-Tomato if you’re a Vegetarian) and get as much Sierra Nevada brew as your body can handle (responsibly of course), in an All-American atmosphere, all while being easy on your wallet.

Sixpoint Craft Ale Event @ The Stag’s Head

September 10, 2010

This past Tuesday, The Stag’s Head and Sixpoint Craft Ale threw an event help the school teachers of New York City cope with the rapid, inevitable end to their summer.  The event, dubbed Sixpoint Back to School Night at The Stag’s Head, offered an impressive selection of Sixpoint’s finest brews as well as a $1 off every beer if you had a NYC DOE ID.  This is an event that this Beer Friends was sure not to miss at an interesting bar that we have been heading to more and more often these days.

The Stag’s Head is a neighborhood bar where you wouldn’t expect a neighborhod bar to be. The Upper East Side has been void of these types of places for a long time now right? Apparently not.

This is the kinda bar where the bartenders know every other person that walks in…and their choice of poison. It wasn’t even close to being dark out and they dimmed the lights…hard. Then they turned up the music, which was rockin’, just so you’d know they meant business.

NYC Craft Beer Events – Week of 8/29 – 9/4

August 30, 2010

This week August ends and we start our transition into fall.  The weather will get a bit cooler but we have many things to look forward too in the beer world.  Fall spice brews and Octoberfest’s will start to grace the beer menu’s at our favorite craft brew bars and we can finally go back to seasonally enjoying the darker beers in life.  Let’s see what we have to look forward to this week as fall starts peering around the corner.

Tuesday, August 31 – Hodgepodge Event @ Jimmy’s No. 43: The East 7th Street craft beer legend has a fantastic series of events, every Tuesday, called $10 Tastings.  They’ll bring in brewers and beer experts, including their own famous expert/owner Jimmy Carbone (co-founder of The Good Beer Seal) and for $10 you get to taste and talk about the featured craft brews.  This event is truly Hodgepodge.  Jimmy’s is going deep into their bottle collection and pulling out some of their favorite brews for this week’s tastings.  When a place as renowned as Jimmy’s No. 43 goes into their bottle cellar and pulls out their favorites for you to taste for a 10-spot, you’d want to be there.

NYC Beer Events – Week of 8/22

August 24, 2010

Aaaaaand we’re back!  The Beer Friends NYC Beer Events calendar updates took a bit of hiatus recently if you hadn’t noticed.  I’d apologize, but it was for a good reason.  A Colorado Brewery Tour is a good reason right?  I think so.  You’ll be hearing all about the Colorado trip and the 15 breweries we visited while there all in good time.  For now let’s talk about what’s happening with craft beer this week in this little town.

Wednesday, August 25 – Sierra Nevada Extravaganza, Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan: It’s that time of year again!  Sierra Nevada will be taking over the taps at the Blind Tiger Ale House for their yearly extravaganza.  Last years event was phenomenal with all of Sierra Nevada’s fantastic regulars and more than a handful of rarely released and specialty brews.  This is a brewery event you won’t want to miss at a beer bar that always puts on a great time.

Wednesday, August 25 – Blue Point Night, Standings, Manhattan: East Village Craft Brew hotspot Standings will be featuring four lines of Long Island’s favorite brewery:  Blue Point Brewing Co., out of Patchogue, New York.  They haven’t released the names of the brews that will be pouring but we imagine it’ll be somewhere along the lines of the Toasted Lager, Blueberry, Hoptical and maybe something mysterious.  Or the Summer Ale.

Thursday, August 26 – Allagash Night, Barcade, Brooklyn: It has been faaar too long since the Beer Friends have made it out  to this Brooklyn brewhouse/arcade.  It has been one of our favorite bars for beer events and Pac-man and an Allagash event seems like a perfect reason to head back.  So come on out to Barcade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and join us in sharing some of Allagash’s traditional and experimental Belgian-Style Brews.  I’m looking forward to grabbing an Allagash Black and maybe a Curieux.
