Hashtag Battles Season 2 – Week 10!

November 11, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Week Ten –  New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks (#riverhorsebeer vs #redhookbeer)

Hashtag Battles goes coast to coast as a AFC East media darling meets a NFC West media darling.  The Jets make headline not for their play, but for their refusal to play certain “savior like” backup QB’s.  The Seahawks make headlines for their play, which is as inconsistant as a meteorologist these days. As the second half of the hashtag battle season begins – let’s see who’ll be making headlines for the right reasons in the second half!

Beer Review 112: River Horse Hop-A-Lot-Amus 2xIPA

May 2, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Today we visit the garden (state that is) for River Horse Brewing Company from Lambertville, New Jersey.  River Horse produces great beer and most Beer Friends favorite episode to date.  We also visited River Horse during the spring and fall seasons, so now it’s their Double IPA to satisfy the resident hop-heads in the group.

Beer Review 89: River Horse Hipp O Lantern Imperial Pumpkin

November 8, 2011

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

This week concludes our Pumpkin beer reviews for 2011.  Much like that rotting pumpkin outside your doorstep – the pumpkin beer season has come and gone for the Beer Friends and we are looking forward to the Winter seasonal beers on deck.  We had some crazy beers, some brand new this year beers, and even a first time (for us) Pumpkin Stout!  This week we reviewed River Horse Hipp O Lantern – and now with our expert Pumpkin beer palates we rate it against the past.  River Horse has faired well in the past (and who could forget) so now we’re to their Hippo theme Pumpkin beer Hipp O Lantern.  Find it yourself and add your review to the comments at the bottom!  Pumpkin!  Lambertville!  Beer Friends Interaction!

Beer Review 80: River Horse Farmhouse Saison

August 30, 2011

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Hurricane Irene hit New Jersey pretty hard and we figured we’d show some love to the Garden State.  In this week’s Beer Events we encourage you to try a new brewery – Kane Brewery in Arlington at the Copper Mine Pub in New Jersey.  Barcade Jersey City is always a good time and we’ve certainly enjoyed ourselves at the Iron Monkey in Jersey City.  This weeks SPotW returns to Lambertville and River Horse’s Brewmaster Reserve Farmhouse Saison.  We’ve tasted River Horse before in what turned out to be a crazy review… lets see what (if any) shenanigans we get into this time… Jersey!  Fist Pumping! Local Brews!

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of July 3, 2011

July 4, 2011

We definitely have a reason to celebrate this weekend.  Actually, two reasons.

First, we celebrate the great country we live in.  A country, that sense its beginning has encouraged ingenuity and creativity among its citizens.  It’s that common instinct that inspires that brewers of the craft beer that we love to do what they do.  It’s why the craft beer industry has continued to be successful and grow by leaps and bounds every year. Craft Beer is as natural to America as fireworks and cookouts on the 4th of July.

We also get to celebrate craft beer itself.  As deemed by the brewers and craft beer bar owners behind The Good Beer Seal, July is Good Beer Month.  Now here at the Beer Friends believe every month should be Good Beer Month.  But we’re pretty okay with picking one out and giving it a name.  So tomorrow, while your cooking out and watching the fireworks, raise your glass of your favorite brew in a toast to craft beer and to America, the country that not only allows craft beer to exist, but inspires it’s incredible and delicious diversity.

Enjoy the events:

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of April 3rd

April 4, 2011

I don’t like starting the NYC Craft Beer Events post without an original theme, but this week I’m stealing ideas…from us.  I don’t know if you’ve all been keeping tabs on the Beer Friend Final Four Beer-March-Madness tournament but this year has been the craziest ever.  A #12 seed in the Northeast bracket is currently poised to take it all.  Anyone thinking VCU?  Except this VCU could actually do it.  If you haven’t voted yet then you should vote now here: http://thebeerfriends.com  I’ll come back with an original theme next week, but this week I’m plugging the Beer Friends Final Four all over the place.

In the mean time let’s see what, and where you’re drinking while you’re voting this week. (Vote here, again: http://thebeerfriends.com) (more…)

March 15, 2011

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

This week the Beer Friends “hop” one state to the West and try out River Horse‘s Hop Hazard Dry Hopped Pale Ale.  With two hop heads and a recent liking for overly hopped pale ales, let’s see how this beer stacks up!

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 2/7/11

February 8, 2011

The Beer Friends are curious…What was your craft brew of choice for the Big Game?  Yes that’s right, the biggest sporting event of the year.  And no we’re not talking about the Superbowl.  We’re talking about Chris Paul’s 3rd Annual PBA Celebrity Invitational.  That’s right, the biggest sports superstars (Chris Paul, Reggie Bush), recording artists (Nelly, Lil’ Wayne) and PBA atheletes (PBA = Professional Bowling Association = You wouldn’t recognize their names if I told you).  Seriously though – What’d you drink for it?  I think a good Smokey Stout really brings out the bowling ball black flavor.  Although, going with a Belgian White Ale, maybe from Allagash, really brings out the 7-10 split.  Either way, we enjoyed the big game and hope you did too.  Let’s see what we have this week to celebrate your own bowling victory’s – finally breaking 100-points.

Tuesday, February 8th – Boulder Brewery Night @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:

Boulder Brewery was one of the Beer Friends favorite stops on our Colorado Brewery Tour and this Tuesday they’ll be stopping in our town, at Rattle n’ Hum, with their best selection of craft brews.  The list of brews is still hidden to the public but we can only imagine that it will include our favorites Mojo IPA, Sweaty Betty Blonde, Planet Porter and Cold Hop and we can only HOPE that they will bring some Killer Penguin and Never Summer Ale.  We also hope they pull the same move they did when we visited the brewery – 4 oz. tasting pours of all 15 of their brews that pour regularly for $13.  Let’s quickly do the math in our head on this one… 4 oz. X 15 = 60 oz.  That’s roughly 4.5 brews.  Will this happen in NYC on Tuesday?  Beer Gods, we hope so.

Rattle n’ Hum is located at 14 E 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues.
