New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of September 25, 2011

September 26, 2011

Every year, like clockwork, right around this time a question comes up:  What does one do the week after NYC Craft Beer Week?  It’s a tough question.  Craft Beer Week was incredible, as always, with the Beer Friends hitting up at least one event every day.  What do we do now that there isn’t quite the dozen or so beer events to choose from every day?  Well, we’re going to help you answer that question.  There is life after NYC Craft Beer Week.  Here it is:

Tuesday, September 27 – Fermented Craft Beer Crawl @ The East Village, Manhattan:

September 6, 2011

This has been a busy summer for the Beer Friends.  We’ve been through an earthquake, two regional brewery tours (Southern California, Boston/Massachusetts), three of us relocated within the boroughs and finally, to top it all off, a hurricane-the first to hit New York in like 300 years (give or take a few decades).  And none of it could stop us.  This tumultuous summer has come to a close, we’ll miss the sun and relaxation – but we’re already gearing up for the fantastic craft beer season that autumn brings us.  Let’s start off the fall correctly.

Tuesday, September 6 – Tuesday Night Tastings: Farmhouse Ales @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of August 1, 2011

August 2, 2011

We are officially approaching the dog days of August, but it seems like we’ve been there for a couple of weeks already.  The rest of the world characterizes the “dog days” as those times in August where the days stretch on for endless hours and are filled with heat and humidity that requires 24/7 air conditioning.  Well, after experiencing 2+ weeks of these oppressively hot/humid days and it only now has become the month of August, we are a bit tired of the weather.  We’re going to need some help getting through whatever August has to throw at us.  And we have the solution:  Craft beer.

Actually there’s more than that in this week’s post.  In fact, if you keep reading there is a surprise that will make you very, very hoppy, uh, I mean, happy that you did.

Tuesday, August 2nd – Smuttynose Tap Takeover @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:

No Smutty, No Beer.  Know Smutty, Know Beer.  They don’t need to say a word more, it’s literally as simple as that.  New Hampshire’s premier brewery will be hitting up Rattle n’ Hum and owning their tap’s this Tuesday night.  They have an (more…)

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of July 24, 2011

July 27, 2011

Hello all you Beer Friends out there!  We’d like to apologize for releasing the craft brew events a bit late this week.  We promise it’s not because we drank too much craft brew.  Actually we’ve been so caught up with our different regional brewery tours – the South, Southern California (Day one, two, three and Stone) and Boston/Cape Cod – that we were late for the boat this week.  Although, I suppose that’s from drinking too much craft brew during our brewery tours.

Anywho’s – we got a great (half) week of events for ya!  Enjoy! (more…)

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of July 3, 2011

July 4, 2011

We definitely have a reason to celebrate this weekend.  Actually, two reasons.

First, we celebrate the great country we live in.  A country, that sense its beginning has encouraged ingenuity and creativity among its citizens.  It’s that common instinct that inspires that brewers of the craft beer that we love to do what they do.  It’s why the craft beer industry has continued to be successful and grow by leaps and bounds every year. Craft Beer is as natural to America as fireworks and cookouts on the 4th of July.

We also get to celebrate craft beer itself.  As deemed by the brewers and craft beer bar owners behind The Good Beer Seal, July is Good Beer Month.  Now here at the Beer Friends believe every month should be Good Beer Month.  But we’re pretty okay with picking one out and giving it a name.  So tomorrow, while your cooking out and watching the fireworks, raise your glass of your favorite brew in a toast to craft beer and to America, the country that not only allows craft beer to exist, but inspires it’s incredible and delicious diversity.

Enjoy the events:

Tuesday, July 5 – The Big Le-Brewski Event: Part 2 @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:

Sit down.  If you’re sitting – get closer to the ground.  I’m about to unload every craft beer lovers dream on you.  Imagine (more…)

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of May 1, 2011

May 2, 2011

May.  What a month.  Spring flowers, worker’s rights, Mexican Fives and Memorial Day.  May is like a non-stop party.  What kind of beer should we drink to start this party?  Ithaca Flower Power for the flowers? The Peoples Lager from China for May Day? Negro Modelo for Cinco de Mayo? A Southhampton Double White for Memorial Day?  You know, cause we’re all double excited to finally be able to wear white now.

Tuesday, May 3 – Pretty Things “Once Upon A Time” Launch Party @ The Rye House, Manhattan:

Ever wonder what beer tasted like in 1855?  The country was just about to be divided by civil

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 2/7/11

February 8, 2011

The Beer Friends are curious…What was your craft brew of choice for the Big Game?  Yes that’s right, the biggest sporting event of the year.  And no we’re not talking about the Superbowl.  We’re talking about Chris Paul’s 3rd Annual PBA Celebrity Invitational.  That’s right, the biggest sports superstars (Chris Paul, Reggie Bush), recording artists (Nelly, Lil’ Wayne) and PBA atheletes (PBA = Professional Bowling Association = You wouldn’t recognize their names if I told you).  Seriously though – What’d you drink for it?  I think a good Smokey Stout really brings out the bowling ball black flavor.  Although, going with a Belgian White Ale, maybe from Allagash, really brings out the 7-10 split.  Either way, we enjoyed the big game and hope you did too.  Let’s see what we have this week to celebrate your own bowling victory’s – finally breaking 100-points.

Tuesday, February 8th – Boulder Brewery Night @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:

Boulder Brewery was one of the Beer Friends favorite stops on our Colorado Brewery Tour and this Tuesday they’ll be stopping in our town, at Rattle n’ Hum, with their best selection of craft brews.  The list of brews is still hidden to the public but we can only imagine that it will include our favorites Mojo IPA, Sweaty Betty Blonde, Planet Porter and Cold Hop and we can only HOPE that they will bring some Killer Penguin and Never Summer Ale.  We also hope they pull the same move they did when we visited the brewery – 4 oz. tasting pours of all 15 of their brews that pour regularly for $13.  Let’s quickly do the math in our head on this one… 4 oz. X 15 = 60 oz.  That’s roughly 4.5 brews.  Will this happen in NYC on Tuesday?  Beer Gods, we hope so.

Rattle n’ Hum is located at 14 E 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues.

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 1/9/11

January 10, 2011

The New Years Eve hangover is finished and Craft Beer is back in full force this week in New York City.  Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into and where we can go to get into it…

Monday, January 10 – Shmaltz Brewery Event @ The Good Beer Store, Manhattan: Shmaltz Brewery is the mastermind behind the brews from Coney Island and Hebrew.  Jeremy Cowan will be heading to the Good Beer Store in the East Village to sign copies of his book and feed you select offerings of his delicious brews.  The Good Beer Store is new to the New York City craft beer scene and it is a great place to grab a pint/flight, fill your growler or find your favorite craft bottles.  They also serve craft beer type foods – sausages, cheeses and other deliciousness.  It gets a Beer Friends stamp of approval.

The Good Beer Store is located at 422 E 9th Street between Avenue A and 1st Avenue.

Wednesday, January 12 – Troeg’s Brewery Event @ The Stag’s Head, Manhattan: Troegs is a fantastic brewery straight out of PA and they are heading straight to the Stag’s Head Wednesday evening to provide you with sustenance.  Expect the best they have to offer- think Troegenator, Hopback Amber, Nugget Nectar and Flying Mouflan.  And think about going there.  Actually, don’t just think about it – Do it.

The Stag’s Head is located at 252 E 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

Thursday, January 13 – Sierra Nevada Draft Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: I believe at least one (or more) Beer Friend has been quoted as saying that Bierkraft is the best place in NYC to get your growler filled.  Now we won’t give it that official title (although it is pretty damn awesome) but it’s gotta be close.  Sierra Nevada will be taking over the taps with some regular and rare brews, including Hoptimum.  Declicious.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets, Brooklyn.

Saturday, January 15 – Ballast Point and Two Brothers Tasting Event @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn: Head on over to GRAB Specialty Foods in Park Slope for the newest installment of their Saturday tasting events.  Two Brothers will be bringing Cane & Ebel, Northwind Imperial Stout, and Domaine Dupage while Ballast Point will be pouring their Sculpin IPA and Calico Amber Ale.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, Brooklyn.
