Rumor has it that North American Breweries Inc. is set to acquire Magic Hat Brewing Co. It is assumed that this sale will be of International Brewers United Inc. and North American Breweries would acquire Pyramid Breweries of Seattle as well. Though, details are sketchy as no one from any of the breweries will confirm or deny any of the reports.
Hopefully a sale like this allows Magic Hat to produce and distribute some more of their lesser known beers while still keeping the quality that we expect from them. Magic Hat is already available in 26 states; it’s probably safe to assume this will give them the distribution to become a truly national brand.
Another possible effect of this acquisition would be that we could see more Pyramid brews distributed on the east coast.
That’s about enough speculation for right now, I will wait to hear official word before I start to demand a wider distribution of Odd Notion…
Beer Friends have been incredibly busy working on some behind the scenes stuff… mainly watching WWDC and E3 videos online… but I digress. This week our SPotW is Magic Hat’s Blind Faith, one of their IPA Project offerings… enjoy!
Is it Monday already? With vacations and work the Beer Friends have fallen off… but like any good beer drinker/AA survivor – time to get back on the horse!
Beer Friends here giving our brief recap of a night to be remembered at our favorite watering hole, The Pony Bar. Located in Hells Kitchen on 10th Ave and 45th Street, this craft beer bar has made quite the splash in the first year they’ve been open. Besides getting great reviews in Time Out New York and Yelp, The Pony Bar has become one of local legend with it’s All American Club. Drink your way through 100 beers, write them down including Beer, Brewery, date and your own personal rating and receive a awesome Dickies short sleeve button up brewmaster shirt – but wait! There’s more! Last night the Pony Bar was closed for a private party from 3-7p as Dan the manager and the awesome bartenders and barhops treated All American club members to 20 new pours plus sliders and wings.
Of course the Beer Friends made a trip – three of us being members in this exclusive club (we like to drink with a purpose) and here’s what our night consisted of: (more…)

It is March and here at the beer friends we are all swept up in bracket madness. We picked 32 beers to fight through a bracket to see which one would come out #1. Today is the first round of voting to help us decide the #1 BFFF Beer.
As a treat we have the very first Beer Review we recorded! Take a look, it’s fun to watch as we’re just getting our video sea-legs, so don’t hold it against us(wink wink), and if you can find some Magic Hat Howl this weekend, pick it up, it might be the last you see till next winter!
