New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of May 13, 2012

May 15, 2012

Tuesday, May 15 – Pony Bar Upper East Side Grand Opening @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:

The Upper East Side just got way cooler – the genius minds behind The Pony Bar decided that the city needed more craft beer and delicious food and lucky UES-craft-beer-heads are getting the second installation.  It’s been described as the second mecca of craft beer in NYC (after the first Pony of course).  The new spot will be a bit bigger in size and is keeping with the same 20 taps/2 casks system.  Of course everything will be $5 – an exceptionally reasonable price for some of the craft staples and specialty pours of which they always seem to have several on hand.  On top of all that good stuff they will be keeping with the great food, music and rustic Americana atmosphere, all to provide you with arguably the best craft beer drinking experience in the city.

The UES Pony Bar is located at 1444 1st Ave on the corner of 75th St. in the Upper East Side, Manhattan (more…)

Beer Review 60: Blue Point Hoptical Illusion

April 19, 2011

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

This week the Beer Friends head back out to Billy Joel’s native land, Long Island for Blue Point’s Hoptical Illusion.  This is the third beer the Beer Friends have reviewed (Spring Fling and Supreme Pumpkin) but the first you can get year round from Blue Point Brewing.  We had a great time at the Brew House (I mean who doesn’t have a great time at a brewery?) Check out Hoptical Illusion for a nice year round hop flavor!  Beer!  Islands!  Year Round flavor!

Beer Review 36: Blue Point Supreme Pumpkin and Fire Island Pumpkin Barrel Ale

October 25, 2010

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Happy October 25th!(?) Today the Beer Friends explore a newer fad within the beer community – Pumpkin Ales.  Available in the fall season, these beers give a alternative to the traditional Octoberfest beers available inbetween Summer and Winter.  We reviewed Blue Point Supreme Pumpkin Ale and Fire Island Pumpkin Barrel Ale to see which was better and why.  This is a battle between two New York City area beers, and the Beer Friends have visited Blue Point Brewery but have yet to check out Fire Island Brewery.  Pumpkin + Beer!  = Pumpkin Beer!

Craft Beer Week Continues – Events for the Week of 9/27-10/2

September 27, 2010

I don’t know how you all felt about the ‘opening ceremonies’ of New York City Craft Beer Week but over here at the Beer Friends we thought it was just fantastic. Ithaca had some tasty brews pouring over at the Pony Bar, the Get Real NY Cask and Food festival was for real with 80+ casks pouring and 20+ local restaurants serving up their best samples, the Staten Island beer festival had some of the Beer Friends favorite breweries on hand and saying the Atlantic Antic was antic would be an understatement. You’ll be hearing more about these events as Craft Beer Week sprints along, but for now let’s see what we have coming to us in the week ahead.
