This week we know what teams have advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament we move on to our second round in our Beer Madness 2013. Congratulations to to Michigan, Syracuse, Wichita State, and Louisville for making it to the Final Four. We here at the Beer Friends would like to wish Kevin Ware a speedy recovery, it was reported yesterday that he was up and walking around on crutches which is great news after his injury this past weekend.
Week Fourteen - Baltimore Ravens at Washington Redskins (#flyingdog)
This week features the closest thing to an inner city rivalry the NFL has (lets face it – Giants vs Jets is like when Varsity scrimmages the JV squad). The Ravens are constantly at the top of the AFC North and always in line for a playoff spot – no matter who’s kicking field goals, and the Redskins went from a few re-building years with Shanahan and Sons to a wildcard in the NFC East race. Let’s see who takes Mid-Atlantic bragging rights in this weeks hashtag battle!
We know why you’ve come here today, just sit back and let us plan your week of beer swigging events…
Monday August 20th -
Murray’s Cheese is a locals favorite of most New Yorkers – legendary on Bleecker, I recently had a true New Yorker get so excited that “Murray’s now sells beer!” As if the craft beer revolution was now official in his mind. Well, those of us who’ve been following for quite some time welcome Murray’s Cheese to the table and let’s see what they got! On Monday, August 20th, Murray’s Cheese pairs with the Shelton Brothers to present “Belgian Beers and Cheese” – the problem is (with Murray’s being new to the craft beer scene – we’re very cheap) it’s $75 to get in and availability is limited (10 seats for this class).
Everyone seems to be caught up with #MarchMadness so this week we tried a beer with some maddening labels (created by Ralph Steadman)… Flying Dog! Flying Dog started in Colorado and moved to Maryland (which breaks my heart) but now their stuff is a lot more available (you win some and you lose some). This is their traditional IPA not to be confused with their Belgian IPA “Raging Bitch”. We reviewed before and again and liked their stuff, so the bars is pretty high. #BFF4! Flying Dog! *More* Local!
This year is special – you’re getting some extra time. To do what with you ask? Drink more craft beer of course! What kind of craft beer should you drink and where should you drink it? Let’s see…
Tuesday, February 28 – Dogfish Head Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:
The over-the-top odd-duck of the beer world is bringing their best brews to one of NYC’s best brew bars. Enter Dogfish Head at the Pony Bar. We’re talking 20 draft lines and 2 casks. Possibly even some fancy rare stuff. Although, almost anything Dogfish Head makes tastes fancy and rare. Chris Valente, of Dogfish, will be on hand to get you through the night, but you should probably set something up beforehand to help get you home. This is going to be a big one.
The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avenue on the Northwest corner of 45th street, Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan.
In the spirit of competition, Beer Friends would like to invite everyone to our NFL season hashtag battles! Using hashtagbattle.com we will pit two breweries against each other when their NFL counterparts are facing off on the gridiron. Are you ready for some football? And drinking? And #hashtag battle?!?!?!
What’s a hashtag battle? When you’re drinking a beer of a brewery competing in the battle (#3floyds) vs #flyingdog), throw a #hashtag of the brewery and tweet it (or setup your foursquare or untappd to push to tweet and include the #hashtag) and we’ll use hashtagbattle.com to declare a winner after the Monday Night football game on ESPN. We’re starting on Saturday morning so drink up – support your team, support your beer, drink local and hashtag battle!
Week Fourteen: Indianapolis Colts (#3Floyds) vs Baltimore Ravens (#flyingdog)

The Beer Friends Return with our Six Pack of the Week!
This week it a continuation of our Spring Series – Flying Dog Brewery from Frederick, Maryland with their Spring offering, Garde Dog. We had some camera framing issues, but not to worry, we got Phil’s good side.
Hello again all Friends of Beer! This week’s review features the Gonzo Porter from Flying Dog Breweries. The audio is a little soft during the program so be careful with the intro and outro(we’re working on solving the audio part, we’ll have it fixed real soon). Enjoy!
