Hashtag Battles Season 2 – Week 17!

December 30, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Week Seventeen  - Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins (#rahrandsonsbrew vs #dogfishhead)

Ah, the last week of the season.  When the Chiefs are officially on the clock and Tom Coughlin is on the hot seat (according to the backpage).  This is the time of the year when we look back at the successes and failures and quietly judge how we could’ve done a better job from our living room.  With the AFC playoff picture all set we turn our attention to the NFC and specificially the NFC East.  The Redskins have been riding a successful rookie backfield (take that Cleveland) all season long with RG3 stumping for a ROY candidacy in the toughest field ever, meanwhile the Cowboys are figuring out new ways to disappoint and instead of this being Romo’s fault – he’s done nothing but throw for almost 5000 yards and keep them in playoff contention.  Let’s see who wins the NFC East crown in this weeks hash tag battle!

Beer Review 96: Dogfish Head Burton Baton

January 4, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

Happy New Year! With the Holiday season upon us we’ve been reviewing holiday ales, but schedules have also been switched up.  This we we travel way back to the vault and post a review of Dogfish Head‘s Burton Baton.  Dogfish Head has been known for big favors and their ancient series (which we very much enjoy), along with some interesting light beers and works well with others.  That’s quite the resume.  This week we travel back to last summer… and tried Burton Baton, a English style ale mixed with a Imperial IPA to equal a nice 10% ABV.  In the meantime we’ve been making list of New Years resolutions: drink good beer, hit good events, check out The Beer Friends daily, and… well… what else do you need?  Beer!  Friends!  Resolutions!

Tuesday, November 29 – Tuesday Night Tasting with Smuttynose Brewing Company @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

I told you.  Great events.  Including this one.  Head out to Brooklyn’s most notorious beer bar and store for a sampling of one of New England’s best breweries.  Smuttynose will be pouring tastes (and pints, and growlers) of Big A IPA, Gravitation, Star Island Single and Smuttanator.  The Smuttanator will be poured on cask.  The rest will be on draught with free samples.  It all will be fantastic brew.

2011 New York City Craft Beer Week: The Beer Friends Event List for Monday – Thursday

September 19, 2011

What a kick-off weekend! The Beer Friends enjoyed quite a bit of craft beer this weekend in honor of the 2011 New York City Craft Beer Week. Rattle n’ Hum threw a great Barrier and Greenport bash Friday night, the Smuttynose pouring at Mudville on Saturday was fantastic (especially that Homunculus) and we’re still not sure which is better – the Concoction or the Penicillin that we tasted on Sunday.

Because there is so much to do this week and weekend, we’re going to be breaking up the Beer Friends event listings for the week. Today we’re throwing at you the events happening from Monday to Thursday. You can then check back on Thursday for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday events – a.k.a. The Grand Finale of NYC Craft Beer Week. We’re hitting the streets, bars and breweries this week with a feverish devotion and we sure hope to see all you NYC Beer Friends out there with us!

BFF4 – Phil’s Bracket: First Round

March 23, 2011

What’s up everyone time to get the Western Bracket for the 2011 Beer Friends Final 4 up and running!

This year Phil’s bracket has contenders from Oregon(of course), California, Hawaii, and a surprise showing from Mexico!  Make sure your vote counts, check back often and get your friends to support your favorite beers in all four brackets all the way to the Final Round!

The first match up is our 1 vs 16 with Sierra Nevada’s Torpedo going head to head with Kona Brewery’s Fire Rock Pale Ale.  A good showing from both, but I’d have to side with the Torpedo, alot more flavor even with the Hops kick has enough in my opinion to unseat the standard flavored Fire Rock.  But who am I to tell you that?  Click on through to the rest of the article and get all 8 of your votes in!
