New York Beer Events for the Week of August 20th – 25th

August 20, 2012

Hello Beer Friends Nation!

We know why you’ve come here today, just sit back and let us plan your week of beer swigging events…

Monday August 20th -

Murray’s Cheese is a locals favorite of most New Yorkers – legendary on Bleecker, I recently had a true New Yorker get so excited that “Murray’s now sells beer!” As if the craft beer revolution was now official in his mind.  Well, those of us who’ve been following for quite some time welcome Murray’s Cheese to the table and let’s see what they got!  On Monday, August 20th, Murray’s Cheese pairs with the Shelton Brothers to present “Belgian Beers and Cheese” – the problem is (with Murray’s being new to the craft beer scene – we’re very cheap) it’s $75 to get in and availability is limited (10 seats for this class).

Murray’s Cheese is located at 254 Bleecker St., New York, NY

2011 New York City Craft Beer Week: The Beer Friends Event List for Monday – Thursday

September 19, 2011

What a kick-off weekend! The Beer Friends enjoyed quite a bit of craft beer this weekend in honor of the 2011 New York City Craft Beer Week. Rattle n’ Hum threw a great Barrier and Greenport bash Friday night, the Smuttynose pouring at Mudville on Saturday was fantastic (especially that Homunculus) and we’re still not sure which is better – the Concoction or the Penicillin that we tasted on Sunday.

Because there is so much to do this week and weekend, we’re going to be breaking up the Beer Friends event listings for the week. Today we’re throwing at you the events happening from Monday to Thursday. You can then check back on Thursday for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday events – a.k.a. The Grand Finale of NYC Craft Beer Week. We’re hitting the streets, bars and breweries this week with a feverish devotion and we sure hope to see all you NYC Beer Friends out there with us!

Monday, September 19

Got a case of the Monday’s after such a fantastic craft beer fueled weekend? We understand. We also know how to help.

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of July 3, 2011

July 4, 2011

We definitely have a reason to celebrate this weekend.  Actually, two reasons.

First, we celebrate the great country we live in.  A country, that sense its beginning has encouraged ingenuity and creativity among its citizens.  It’s that common instinct that inspires that brewers of the craft beer that we love to do what they do.  It’s why the craft beer industry has continued to be successful and grow by leaps and bounds every year. Craft Beer is as natural to America as fireworks and cookouts on the 4th of July.

We also get to celebrate craft beer itself.  As deemed by the brewers and craft beer bar owners behind The Good Beer Seal, July is Good Beer Month.  Now here at the Beer Friends believe every month should be Good Beer Month.  But we’re pretty okay with picking one out and giving it a name.  So tomorrow, while your cooking out and watching the fireworks, raise your glass of your favorite brew in a toast to craft beer and to America, the country that not only allows craft beer to exist, but inspires it’s incredible and delicious diversity.

Enjoy the events:

Tuesday, July 5 – The Big Le-Brewski Event: Part 2 @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:

Sit down.  If you’re sitting – get closer to the ground.  I’m about to unload every craft beer lovers dream on you.  Imagine (more…)

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of May 22, 2011

May 23, 2011

Hallelujah! The Apocalypse/Judgement Day/Coolest Party Ever has been averted! Well, maybe it wasn’t ever going to happen in the first place, or maybe somebody out there prayed really hard…or the Big Guy upstairs didn’t want to end the ingenuity of American Craft Brewing just yet.  You know, just when it was starting to get good. New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 2/21

February 21, 2011

When it comes to the Beer Friends, we love America.  It’s most important ideals are represented everywhere in the craft beer world: liberty, industriousness, creativity and pursuit of happiness.  It’s no surprise that the people who penned these ideals, our Founding Fathers, were craft brewers themselves.  Not only were they forming the world’s most famous democracy they were doing it while enjoying a pint of their own home brewed porters, stouts and pale ales.  Let’s celebrate their ingenuity by drinking the most prized of their creations: craft beer.

Tuesday, February 22 – $10 Tuesday Tastings – Imperials @ Jimmy’s No. 43, Manhattan:

Imperial doesn’t quite go well with the Founding Fathers and early America.  It does however go well with, well, everything else.  Expect Imperial IPA’s, Souts, Porters, Pilsners and more.  Imperial might not be good for democracy, but it goes great with about every style of brew.

Jimmy’s No. 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street in between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, East Village, Manhattan.

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 11/8 – 11/14

November 11, 2010

What what! Winter feels like it’s here and it is starting to taste like it as well.  Winter Warmer is on the shelves, Howl is back in action and I saw somebody order a Sam Adams Winter recently.  Let get right to the cold beer that will help you survive the cold winter nights that NYC is starting to throw at us.

Wednesday, November 10 – Craft Cans and Grilled Cheese Night @ Nita Nita, Brooklyn: Favorite thing to do on a rainy day:  Make grilled cheese and tomato soup and watch the rain from inside.  Favorite thing on any other day: Drink craft beer from a can and eat grilled cheese.  Finally, us grilled cheese and craft beer fanatics have a place to head to.  Nita Nita, out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, host the Craft Can and Grilled Cheese Night every Wednesday.  They will shell out any 2 cans from their canned craft beer selection, add in a cave-aged Gruyere grilled cheese sandwich and throw it at you for just $15.  New favorite thing to do during rainy and non-rainy days:  Go do this.

Wednesday, November 10 – Meet Scott Vaccaro of Captain Lawrence @ The Stag’s Head, Manhattan: Stag’s Head is inviting you out to meet Scott Vaccaro of Captain Lawrence.  He’ll answer any brewing and Captain Lawrence question you have.  Like, what exactly inspired the name Freshchester – The name of the county where Captain Lawrence is located or Fresh Prince of Bel Air.  My guess is the latter, but who really knows – probably Scott Vaccaro.  You can also drink some delicious Captain Lawrence brews – Freshchester, St. Vincent’s Dubbel and the Smoked Imperial Porter.

Thursday, November 11 – Palm Brewery Night @ David Copperfields, Manhattan: The Beer Friends are mostly American Craft Beer fan, but every once in awhile we got represent for the roots of creative craft beer brewing:  Belgium.  Head on up to the UES and join David Copperfields in celebrating some original Belgium creativity.  Palm Brewery will be pouring everything from the regular Palm Ale, to Flambics and Sours.  Take one day off from American Craft Brew and try some old Belgian styles.  Get back to your roots.

Thursday, November 11 – Dogfish Head NOVEMBERFEST @ Standings, Manhattan: Why is it fair that only one month of the year gets a Fest?  Well the guys at Dogfish Head and Standings agree it’s a slight that will go on no longer.  Introducing (for the 6th year in a row): Novemberfest.  Dogfish Head will be pouring Punkin Ale, Bitches Brew, Palo Santo Marron and Red and White.  There will also be some specially selected rare bottles being poured.  And free pizza! I like this fest-equality-movement. Can’t wait for January-fest.

Thursday, November 11 – Sixpoint Tap Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: Alright, put your seatbelt on.  Sit down.  Put your legs up.  Drink some water.  Whatever else you can do to prepare yourself for this.  Beirkraft is featuring Sixpoint on Thursday, by featuring I mean allowing them to takeover their taps.  They have 14 taps.  Name 14 Sixpoint brews and pick out the ones you don’t like.  You should have zero names.  You should also go to this.

Saturday, November 13 – The New York Beer and Brewery Tour @ Chelsea Brewing Co., Manhattan: Ask yourself:  How much do you love craft beer?  Ask yourself:  How much do you love New York City?  If the answer to both those questions are “I would sell my kidneys to continue drinking it/living there” then you should check out this Chelsea Brewery Event.  Grab a ticket ($100, you better love both a lot) and you get a chartered afternoon trip through three of NYC’s boroughs where you will learn about the history of beer brewing in NYC, hit up two breweries, one of the city’s best beer bars and do some archaeology in Brooklyn’s ‘old brewer’s row’?  There’s also generous beer sampling at each stop.  Ask yourself this question:  Is it worth it?  Yes.
