Today is the third in the series of the New Belgium Reviews (Dig – Belgo). New Belgium has recently announced a new $175 million dollar brewery in Asheville, NC and the Beer Friends are terribly excited about it – so we decided to find and review some of their brews to get the East Coast (mainly New England and NYC Area) ready! Fat Tire is certainly the most popular brew from New Belgium and the name was inspired from the “fat tires” on the mountain bike that the founder Jeff Lebesch rode through European village on his career-inspiring beer tour. History! Colorado Beer Tour! Expansion for Delicious Beer!
Today we visit the garden (state that is) for River Horse Brewing Company from Lambertville, New Jersey. River Horse produces great beer and most Beer Friends favorite episode to date. We also visited River Horse during the spring and fall seasons, so now it’s their Double IPA to satisfy the resident hop-heads in the group.
Fresh off (recovering) our Live Blog of Idle Hands Sierra Nevada Night we have this review and blind taste test of Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Now Torpedo was the first beer we reviewed and just recently they followed the latest trend in craft beer… canning craft beers. In this review we revisit Sierra Nevada Torpedo and give a rating based on the canned version along with a discussion of the pros and cons of canning beers. This is a little longer video – but a two parter! Consider this part of our “Ken Burns” series of reviews. Cans! Nostalgia! Famous Documentarians!
This week, in the middle of our BFF4, we review last years runner up (and Beer Friend favorite)Cape Cod Beer. Cape Cod Beer is located in Hyannis, MA and is a very local brewery(can’t even get it in Boston). One of the best things about Cape Cod Beer is you need to go to Cape Cod and enjoy their brews fresh – hopefully with a platter from Seafood Sam’s on a warm summer day – sounds like paradise.
Over the next couple weeks we will have a series of videos about Cape Cod Beer. Stay tuned for videos including interviews and another review.
PS – Sorry for the poor lighting, focus and camera angle – trying out new equipment and debating getting our money back!
Disclaimer: Beth’s official title is “business manager” – sorry Beth! You know we’d NEVER do anything to upset you!
This week the Beer Friends travel a few states west to Pennsylvania, home of Harrisburg and Troegs Brewing. Troegs does some great stuff and had their Nugget Nectar ranked #13 in the Blue bracket (#50 overall) in this years BFF4. We’ve reviewed Troegs before and enjoyed the bread-y double bock, now we try their coffee stout. With Spring approaching – does this darker brew still taste as delicious? Watch and find out! Coffee! Beer! BFF4!
You know what makes this a Good Friday? Another review from the Beer Friends! We return to our New Belgium Series with Belgo, a Belgian style IPA. This is part of the Explore Series which also features favorites like Ranger IPA and the new Shift (Pale Lager). This week Greg Avola from Untappd joins us again – giving great insight and fitting in nicely at “the table”. If you are interested in joining us at the table email us and we’ll see what we can do – we’re always looking for new (beer) friends! Fort Collins! Belgian beers (Thank God Phil wasn’t here…)! New Friends!
Everyone seems to be caught up with #MarchMadness so this week we tried a beer with some maddening labels (created by Ralph Steadman)… Flying Dog! Flying Dog started in Colorado and moved to Maryland (which breaks my heart) but now their stuff is a lot more available (you win some and you lose some). This is their traditional IPA not to be confused with their Belgian IPA “Raging Bitch”. We reviewed before and again and liked their stuff, so the bars is pretty high. #BFF4! Flying Dog! *More* Local!
In the Beer Friends constant effort to drink everything Sixpoint produces – we occasionally video tape ourselves doing it. This week we tried the very sought after Resin, a Double IPA that was just announced as a year round brew from Sixpoint. Sixpoint has always been known for doing killer stuff on draft and last year they started selling their stuff in Nanokegs. This turned back the clock for the Beer Friends and every new can or design was like diving into a new pack of baseball cards. Be sure to check out our other Sixpoint reviews below the video. Sixpoint! Double/Imperial! #Nanokegs!
New Belgium is a legendary brewery on the East Coast. We’ve all met that friend that grew up out West and Fat Tire was more available than Sierra Nevada – or have that East Coast buddy that went to Vegas on a bachelor weekend and came back telling of a magical beer… Growing up in Colorado, I didn’t know what I had until it was gone. By the power of motor vehicles and some well planned traveling – the Beer Friends were able to get their hands on some of the New Belgium line for samples. This week we review Dig the spring seasonal offering taking the place of Mighty Arrow, and this Beer Friend likes the change. Enjoy this review in our New Belgium series (yeah we bought a couple six-packs back!) Beer Road Trip! New Belgium! Spring!
This week the Beer Friends found a little rare beer from Founders Brewing out of Michigan. Old Curmudgeon Better Half features the Old Curmudgeon (Old Ale) aged in whiskey barrels then aged in maple syrup barrels to create a very complex brew. This is a similar (if not the exact same) process the now in-famous Breakfast Stout -> Kentucky Breakfast Stout (whiskey barrel aged) -> Canadian Breakfast Stout (whiskey THEN maple barrels). Both of these beers are delicious and when ever a Beer Friend finds CBS he puts out the BF signal (mostly just a text) and we all come running. However, CBS is so last year… Old Curmudgeon’s Better Half is the new black and we are all in. Check out our other Founders Reviews below the video – enjoy (we did!) Rare Beer! Beer is the new Black! Founders!
