Some would call Founders arriving on the East Coast one of the best things to happen to New York City ever.  Perhaps we should have a public holiday to celebrate?  Until then (more…)

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of February 26, 2011

February 28, 2012

This year is special – you’re getting some extra time.  To do what with you ask?  Drink more craft beer of course!  What kind of craft beer should you drink and where should you drink it?  Let’s see…

Tuesday, February 28 – Dogfish Head Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:

The over-the-top odd-duck of the beer world is bringing their best brews to one of NYC’s best brew bars.  Enter Dogfish Head at the Pony Bar.  We’re talking 20 draft lines and 2 casks.  Possibly even some fancy rare stuff.  Although, almost anything Dogfish Head makes tastes fancy and rare.  Chris Valente, of Dogfish, will be on hand to get you through the night, but you should probably set something up beforehand to help get you home.  This is going to be a big one.

The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avenue on the Northwest corner of 45th street, Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan.

Tuesday, February 21 – Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve Night @ Mission Dolores, Brooklyn:

Brooklyn Brewery’s main line of beers sticks mostly to old world, traditional styles.  Easily drinkable beer with nothing over-the-top.  Something you can always count on being delicious to almost any group of people.  Their Brewmasters Reserve collection?  Out of control.  In the best way.  They will be bringing the whole entourage of brewmaster brews as well as some surprises.

2009 Monster Ale
AMA Bionda
2007 Black Chocolate Stout
Radius
Concoction
Mary’s Maple Porter
Sorachi Ace
Winter Ale
Blast

After reading that I am actually a bit afraid to find out what the “special surprises” are going to be.  (more…)

January 30, 2012

This has been quite a whacky winter.  So whacky it seems like spring already.  Now, as I’m currently knocking on wood, I’m also thinking about the release of spring-styled brews that’s already underway.  Yes, you can definitely still grab darker, warmer and spicier winter brews to help you fend off the (almost) cold weather, but the change of season is at hand – in beer style and maybe in the weather as well.

Happy Holidays from all of us here at the Beer Friends.  We hope you had a great weekend, celebrating with family, eating great food and drinking great craft beer.  We’re sorry if now that the holiday weekend is over you have to go back to work, however if you have a nice, week-long vacation then you’re in for some excellent craft beer event hunting.  Here are a few favorites…

Tuesday, December 27 – Tuesday Night Tastings: Leftovers Edition @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

One of the best and worst parts of the holidays – leftovers.  Great for the first day, terrible after having eaten them for lunch and dinner 3 days in a row.  Bierkraft has solved this problem – invite everyone over for a big leftovers party where you give away all the best stuff you consumed on your holiday.  Their cellar manager Matt Barclay has raided Bierkraft’s stockpile of great brew they didn’t sell during the holidays and is serving it up Tuesday.  I wouldn’t miss a chance for a peek in Bierkraft’s cellar if I were you… (more…)
