Another week, another week of beer events… check it!
Monday August 27th -
In the craft beer world movement to get local, we find Rockaway Brewing Company , a company so local they deliver their kegs via bicycle! This brewery pairs up with Jimmy’s No. 43 and Queens County Farm Museum to provide a small tasting where you can try this 2 barrel microbrewery and find out a little more about the Queens County Farm Museum in a fun filled evening of food pairing and local drinking.
This week we return to New Belgium for a favorite style of ours, IPA. New Belgium produced Ranger IPA in February of 2010 and has gotten rave reviews ever since. Although New Belgium typically has a Belgian influence, Ranger IPA is a pretty big IPA at 6.5% and 70 IBU‘s. Ranger! IPA! Beer!
We know why you’ve come here today, just sit back and let us plan your week of beer swigging events…
Monday August 20th -
Murray’s Cheese is a locals favorite of most New Yorkers – legendary on Bleecker, I recently had a true New Yorker get so excited that “Murray’s now sells beer!” As if the craft beer revolution was now official in his mind. Well, those of us who’ve been following for quite some time welcome Murray’s Cheese to the table and let’s see what they got! On Monday, August 20th, Murray’s Cheese pairs with the Shelton Brothers to present “Belgian Beers and Cheese” – the problem is (with Murray’s being new to the craft beer scene – we’re very cheap) it’s $75 to get in and availability is limited (10 seats for this class).
This weeks SPotW is part of the seasonal series from Sixpoint Craft Ales in Redhook, Brooklyn. It’s no secret that the Beer Friends love Sixpoint and love what they are doing with their cans. The art, the size (tallboys) and the quality is a great look in to a craft brewery growing and improving their brand daily. In honor of the recent Olympics – SPOILER ALERT: This is a Bavarian style wheat beer with Belgian roots – guess who’s gonna hate it? Sixpoint! Nanokegs! Sun God!
It was a dark and story night. Two intrepid beer drinkers braved the elements, the sheeting rain and slow busses to bring you a night of one of our favorite breweries out of Colorado. Wetsocks and all we are always excited for a little Great Divide and a Cowboys From Hell burger with crab seasoned tater tots from That Burger. Read on for the goodness…
Today we finish up with the 3rd part of the Cape Cod Beer interview series. Beth and Todd Marcus were so amazing to allow us a few minutes on camera to discuss their wonderful business with us – and we have been eternally grateful. In Part 1 Paul, Beth and Brad discuss origins of Cape Cod Beer, their “1 Barrel Series,” and the creation of their Christmas in July speciality brew. In Part 2 they discuss the passion that Cape Cod Beer brings to their beer and tours, expansion of the brand, and a little bit about the can craft beer revolution. Part 3 finishes the series with insightful questions like: Why doesn’t your beer taste like Bud Light? and Where’s the bathroom?… kidding, we are professional beer journalist and discuss the brewing schedule, and the business side of a small craft brewery.

Tuesday, August 14 – Belgian Beer Night @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan:
Hello Beer Friends Nation!!! You may have noticed our fancy new logo AND you may have noticed we are up on iTunes now(so you can take us everywhere with you) BUT here’s our brand new feature: Beer Friends Nation Reviews! That’s right! Have we missed your favorite beer? let us know by writing up a review and sending it to phil@thebeerfriends.com or brad@thebeerfriends.com and we’ll get it up on the site! Spread the love and Spread the word!
For our first BFN Review we have Michael from San Diego telling us his thoughts on Stone’s Ruination 10th Anniversay. Click through for Michael’s review…
Tonight, once again we are coming to you from the great Idle Hands Bar in New York City for the tasting night featuring Mission Brewery and Bushmills Irish Whiskey. We have a couple to get through so check back and see what we think!
In between the Cape Cod Interviews (Part 1 – Part 2) we’ve placed a few reviews, some of the stuff you can get most of the time (IPA – Red) but a lot is rare stuff (Bourbon Aged Red – 1000th Batch Imperial Red – Stargazer Stout) because we like to show off (we’ve very insecure). Today’s review falls into the latter category with Stock Stout. Stout Stock is a milk stout created with coffee beans from Beanstock Coffee, another Cape business promoting all things good that are “The Cape.” This delicious pour is made with Bali Blue Moon Organic Coffee and, as you’ll see in the video, creates a really unique smooth flavor. Coffee! Beer! Cape Cod!
