New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of October 23, 2011

by

Tuesday, October 25 – Southern Tier Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:

Here’s an event you won’t want to miss:  Southern Tier’s first brewery event at the Pony Bar.  They’ll be bringing the best, the biggest and the rarest of their brews.  We’re talking hoppy oak age Imperial IPA’s, Phin and Matt’s Extraordinary Ale and some high alcohol, rare bottles that will be mysteriously popping up around the bar.  If you’re lucky one might pop up next to you.

The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avenue on the Northwest Corner of West 45th Street, Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan.

Tuesday, October 25 – Tuesday Night Tasting with Empire Brewery @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Now here’s an interesting beer story – breweries that start in large cities usually export their production to smaller towns in the region in order to produce enough volume to satisfy consumers while not having to pay the immense inner-city rents – Brooklyn Brewery, Sam Adams and Harpoon all have done this among countless other craft brewers.  Empire is a bit different – started in Syracuse, New York way way back, got pretty popular in the region and then opened a second brewery in order to keep up – in Brooklyn.

Both the Syracuse brewery and the Brooklyn based brewery will be helping to support their more popular offerings, while at the same time focusing on their own featured brews.  Assistant brewer Olivia Cerio and brand manager Gabe Barry will be leading the tastings and will feature beers made exclusively at both breweries.  The pours listed so far are – Amber Ale, IPA, Pumpkin, Hefe and Hop Harvest.  Tuesday night tastings are free – but Bierkraft isn’t too big – so get there early.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Wednesday, October 26 – Beers of San Diego! @ The Stag’s Head, Manhattan:

This Beer Friend has some fond memories of San Diego Breweries after the Southern California Brewery tour stopped there in July.  Now he gets to relive them at the Stag’s Head = less palm trees and perfectly sunny weather, but the same great beer.  I’ll take that.

Mission Brewery will be on hand alongside Ballast Point, Stone Brewing and Green Flash Brewing.  If San Diego had a brewing all-star team, this would be it.

The Stag’s Head is located at 252 East 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, Upper East Side, Manhattan.

Thursday, October 27 – I Love New York Beer Month – A Tale of Two Forks @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

October at the Spring Lounge is a special time.  Especially for us Empire Staters. For the entire month they’ve turned over their taps and bottles to the famous craft breweries located here in New York.  As sort of a finale they’ll be showcasing two of Long Islands best breweries, Greenport Harbor and Southampton, in an event titled “Strong Ryeland” – which features a rye brew of epic proportions of the same name.  Think of a rye based ESB with, and I quote the Spring Lounge – “enough hops to make your toes tingle.”

The Spring Lounge is located at 48 Spring Street on the Corner of Mulberry Street, NoLita, Manahttan.
