For you avid twitter followers out there, you’ll notice that the Beer Friends checked into a few Boston area Breweries earlier this week, this was part of our Boston Area Brewery Tour 2011 (Working Title), the first stop – appropriately enough – was the Harpoon Brewery off the Silver Line (you know, the weird bus line that goes underground in Boston). Harpoon was actually the first brewery issued a license in the state of Massachusetts, and proudly display their 001 Brewers License on merchandise.
C’mon with me for more and follow along with my tour…
This week we grabbed a brew from Ancient Honduras – Theobroma from Dogfish Head Brewery. This beer is part of the Ancient Ales Series which Sam Calagione (Founder and CEO) researches beers ancient roots and attempts to recreate some of these early brewing methods and recipes. Although the Beer Friends have looked at other Dogfish Head brews and Collaborations, this is the first in the Ancient Ales series of which you can drink 3 of 5 on Untappd.com and earn a badge for your efforts. Ancient Ales! Beer Rewards! Early Honduras Brew Masters!
Hello all you Beer Friends out there! We’d like to apologize for releasing the craft brew events a bit late this week. We promise it’s not because we drank too much craft brew. Actually we’ve been so caught up with our different regional brewery tours – the South, Southern California (Day one, two, three and Stone) and Boston/Cape Cod – that we were late for the boat this week. Although, I suppose that’s from drinking too much craft brew during our brewery tours.
Anywho’s – we got a great (half) week of events for ya! Enjoy! (more…)
It’s good to get back to the (hot, stiflingly humid, smelly) city has been great. Having a couple brews at the Pony Bar and hitting up a few of this weeks craft beer events got me right back into the New York swing-of-things – but I am still missing the beautiful California weather, views and beer! Here’s the last day of our mini Southern California brewery tour that includes a day in the San Diego area visiting Green Flash, Ballast Point and Stone!

Finally – 4 for 4, batting 1.000, we’ve got the shooting touch, hat trick plus one, and out of sports metaphors… Today we tried the final available (for now) Sixpoint Nanokeg – Righteous Ale. What used to be called Righteous Rye, this beer has toned down a bit but certainly is as good in the can as off the draft… Batting 1.000! Nanokeg! Beer-cycle!
And I’m back. Freshly returned from California and the short, but excellent brewery tour this Beer Friend embarked on (You can find Day 1 and Day 2 already published, Day 3 is coming soon!), I’m ready for some New York City craft beer events to get back onto East Coast time and state of mind. (more…)
Day Two stretches from way up north (of LA) in Santa Ynez/Buellton all the way down to Carlsbad. We hit up Figueroa Mountain Brewery in Buellton, tried to hit up Firestone Walker (also in Buellton) and after driving 3/4 hours south on the 405 on the eve of “Carmageddon” made our way to Pizza Port in Carlsbad. Southern California has not only been a bastion of palm trees, sandy beaches and surfers but also of delicious craft beer.

It was pure happenstance that we stumbled upon this brewery and I’m glad we did. The topic of craft beer in America happened to come up and the friends we were with suggested their new favorite, hometown craft brewery – Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company.
Hello all from sunny Southern California! As I sit here and type while looking out onto the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean I am pressed to share my California experiences with all you Beer Friends out there! No, not the experiences that involve the scenic coastal drives, giant palm trees, foggy mountains and golden fields of wheat. Not at all. We know what you want to hear about: The Beer! And SoCal is flowing with it!
Now this vacation was not centered around the beer, but I did my best (as any Beer Friend would) to sample as much of the local brew as I could along my travels – which took place mostly in the LA area, but reached as far north as Santa Ynez/Santa Barbara and as far south as the beautiful city of San Diego. Day 1 was short and only includes the Santa Barbara Brewing Company – but none-the-less it was a good one!
Full Disclosure -last week we mentioned we liked beer, a lot, this week we mention we like Colorado Beer, a lot. This week’s SPotW is Odell Brewing CompaniesCutthroat Porter. Odell is located in Fort Collins, Colorado and was a excellent stop (twice in fact!) on the Colorado Brewery Tour. Odell currently has a smaller distribution range (8 states and they mentioned something about England soon with their traditional English style brewing techniques) so if you find it, get it. Small Distribution! Big Delicious Taste! Rare Beer!
