We miss New York City Good Beer Month already, quite a bit actually, and we’re not getting it back anytime soon, however that does not mean that the good beer has stopped flowing in this great city. July was a fantastic month, however we at the Beer Friends promise that August will not disappoint. The Beer Friends have some big announcements coming out this month, including some breaking beer news, special events and Beer Friends exclusive happenings. Make sure you keep checking in to stay up to date during these exciting craft beer times.
Tuesday, August 3 – Speakeasy Night @ Toast Uptown: Many beer lovers shy away from heading north of say…George Keeley’s when it comes to finding craft beer in this town. This is disappointing, but mostly for those who won’t do the trek. Toast Uptown, just south of 125th Street/Tiemann Place on Broadway is a Morningside Heights craft beer gem and tonight they will be featuring the Speakeasy Brewery out of San Fransisco. In addition to their semi-regular pour Speakeasy Prohibition Ale they will be serving up the “Big Daddy” IPA and two other special Speakeasy brews. While your there enjoying a few Speakeasy brews you should take it upon yourself to dive into one of their famous burgers or their infamously delicious ‘toasts’ (think steak, pulled pork or goat cheese on perfectly “toasted” baguette slices). I would say that Speakeasy brews perfectly compliment the food, but wouldn’t one just imply on their own that great beer would compliment great food?
Wednesday, August 4 – Harpoon Night @ Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan: Come on over to your favorite West Village beer bar for a night to remember with the Harpoon Brewing Company. Harpoon will be taking over the taps with lot’s of rare stuff, including select pours from their Leviathan Series, 100 Barrel Series, as well as two beers that will be brewed special for this event. There is a good chance you will see a Beer Friend or two making an appearance at this one.
Friday/Saturday/Sunday, August 6/7/8 – The “A” Rated Event @ Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn: This is an event of epic proportions, contrived from the minds behind the Williamsburg craft beer haven of Mug’s Ale House and the guys behind the beer dictionary websites of BeerAdvocate.com and RateBeer.com. Users on these two websites take the time to give number/letter ratings to all the craft brews they drink. Mug’s will be pouring beers that only receive the highest, “A”, ratings on these websites. The lineup is still in the “coming soon” phase, but since this ale house consistently has an exceptionally diverse and quality selection, I wouldn’t hold back from betting that they will provide us with the finest craft beers this country has to offer. It’s a three day event, but you should go early and often cause when the best is gone, it’s gone…
Sunday, August 8 – The Benefit For the Gulf @ Blind Tiger, Manhattan: One recurring and inspiring theme that has been happening throughout Good Beer Month is the craft beer worlds dedication to helping the fishermen and other business effected by the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Part of the profits from the event this Sunday will go towards helping these good people get back on their feet.
ALL WEEK LONG, 8/1 – 8/8 – Local Brewery Appreciation Week @ Rattle n’ Hum, Manhattan: The guys over at Rattle n’ Hum are keeping up their local brew lovefest, this time with every brewery in the 5 bourough area…and beyond. This event will feature pours from Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint Crapt Ales, Kelso of Brookyn, Captain Lawrence and Ithaca Brewing Co.
Alright, Beer Friends out for now! But keep checking in daily for event updates and information on where the Beer Friends will be imbibing their favorite craft beers this week. July was NYC Good Beer Month, however, we promise August will be awesome.
