An exciting round of voting yesterday to get us to the round of 16. Brooklyn and Sixpoint were the big winners in the first round, both coming through with three wins. The biggest upset was Troegs Hop Back Amber Ale over the Harpoon Celtic Ale. Not so big but still significant was Sixpoint Sweet Action also over the slightly favored Magic Hat Vinyl, and the West came out strong and sent New Belgium Fat Tire on to the next round. Ithaca Flower Power surged late but ultimately it was not enough to beat the lower seeded, but nationally popular Sierra Nevada Torpedo.
This Friday The Beer Friends will be heading out on their First Brewery Tour! We will be making the trek from Manhattan all the way out to Patchogue, Long Island to visit the Blue Point Brewery and their tasting room.
We are inviting any craft beer lovers to come join us at around 4 o’lock. Patchogue and Blue Point are just a short LIRR train ride from the city, so we’d love to see you out there with us. As always, be the first to find us and we will buy you a craft brew!
More details will be posted throughout the coming days, so keep checking in!

P.S. – Don’t forget to cast your votes for The Beer Friends Final Four while your at it!
It is March and here at the beer friends we are all swept up in bracket madness. We picked 32 beers to fight through a bracket to see which one would come out #1. Today is the first round of voting to help us decide the #1 BFFF Beer.
Anything goes! Covering all styles and all experimental brews, this bracket has some of the most interesting beers going up against some of the strongest. (more…)
Crowning the champion of hops. This bracket brings us the fight between one of the more popular styles in Craft Beer today. This bracket has only one style, but this style conjures up a lot of opinions and a lot of flavors. (more…)
The first round of the Red, Amber, and Brown Ale bracket. The only bracket that pits three specific styles against each other, the style on style match-ups should cause for an interesting second and third round of this bracket. Only one style can survive to the Beer Friends Final Four. (more…)
The latest! Our video review of LagunitasCensored Rich Copper Ale. If you’re looking for that copper ale with a little something special, this might be just the beer you’re looking for. Check out the review for more details.
Is today your birthday? well if it is Happy Birthday, and if it’s not have no fear! Sierra Nevada has decided to give us all a gift for their 30th birthday this year:
According to uncrate.com the good folks out west are releasing a bunch of Limited Edition brews, 30 would be my guess, conjured up with a number of Craft Beer Innovators from around country.
Currently there are four they are telling us about: Fritz and Ken’s Ale,Charlie, Ken and Fred’s Lager, Jack and Ken’s Ale, and Oak Aged Ale. They are bottled in the larger form factor bottles with the cork and cage seal that we all enjoy from Brooklyn Brewery for the Local 1 and Local 2 Brews. The rest are slated to be unleashed on the public over the course of the year so be on your toes. Be on the lookout for these at a store near you, pick one up or you’ll ruin Sierra Nevada’s Birthday. No one likes a crying Brewery.
Ever wonder why you drink the beers you do? Sure some of us (most of us here at BeerFriends) have discerning taste, but what about when we all started? I’m sure the majority of us Crafty Beer guys started out with few brews from some of the larger more general breweries. But why? Because it was cheap? It was the only thing we could reach from the kids seat in the shopping cart? Nope. One word my friends: Marketing. We’re all exposed to it, victims of the PR mind game that is advertising, and while we all know who the king of beers is and who is rocky mountain cold, the guys over at The Design Inspiration have a post up at Abduzeedo.com showing a collection of beer ads that you may not have seen before. Check it out, while you may never drink any of the beers shown there, there’s at least a few pretty great looking creations. Enjoy.
